The Kustom Contender is a boutique-styled, 18-watt tone machine that borrows special features from its big brother, the all-tube Defender guitar amplifier from Kustom. Utilizing a high-voltage 12Ax7 tube preamp design, The Contender harkens back to the small tube guitar amps of yesterday: chock full of sweet tone and snarling attitude. The Contender is housed in a '60s-era Pine cabinet, a key ingredient in its lively tone. Controls provided are Volume, Bass, Treble and Master, as well as Bright and Master Volume Bypass switches. With the Master engaged, it's easy to get chunky overdriven tones that ring with clarity. With the Master Bypass switch engaged, the amp is pure old-school, eliminating the Master Volume circuit entirely. Speaker duties are handled with authority by an 8-inch Eminence speaker. Special details include an exclusive stitched-pattern covering, an oversized, cushy leather handle, plywood baffle, jewel light and vintage-style power switch. Tube Tone lives inside The Contender.

The DL18MT low frequency reproducer speaker is an 18-inch, 8-ohm driver designed for professional high-level, high fidelity monitoring and sound reinforcement. Incorporated into the design are three exclusive Electro-Voice innovations; PROTEF coating, a Teflon-based coating, the Thermal Inductive Ring, and the Flux Demodulation Device. Also included in the DL18MT design are aluminum castings fastened to the pole of the magnet to control inductance and provide a major heat transfer from the voice coil, which improves power handling and reduces thermal dynamic-range compression.

The RUPA518 features two modes of operation stereo and bridged mono. Depending on the mode of operation, the RUPA518 can deliver from 5 to more than 18 watts of RMS power at the output. In stereo mode, each of the two inputs feeds its respective left or right output. Front panel level controls set the gain for both left and right channels. When the rear panel switch is set to the bridge mode, the two inputs A and B are mixed together and fed to the output. In either the stereo or mono mode, an internal audio peak limiter may be turned on using a rear panel switch.
